Join artist Siobhan McDonald in a talk about her exhibit, “This is Where I Lived,” which will be displayed in the Carten Gallery from Monday, Nov. 10, 2025 through Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026.
Artist Statement: “The works in this show are about who I am, how I see things, and what place means to me. I travel using traditional means or sometimes with Google Earth.
Every series I do begins with a piece of literature. A poem, a book - something that provides me with a key to open the structure of the series, answering my internal questions of how many, what, or why.
I’m interested in memory and how people’s recollections of things and their perceptions can shift over time. Altered buildings, abstracted space and other changes may make some works seem both familiar and yet not. My goal is for the viewer to have their own private experience with memory and time.”
Siobhan McDonald lives in Marblehead and has her studio at Gallows Hill Artists in Salem. She works primarily with paint and drawing media. She received her bachelor’s in Studio Arts from Montserrat College of Art and a master’s of Education in Arts and Learning from Endicott College. She was a member of the Education Advisory Board at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston for four years and currently sits on the Board of the Massachusetts Art Education Association.
