Sea Turtle Rescue

Monday, June 137:00—8:00 PMZoom

Sea Turtle Rescue is the second lecture of our 3-week series led by published underwater photographer/videographer, Bob Michelson. Bob will share his expertise of many of New England’s marine life (sharks, sea turtles, whales, and much more) while incorporating his own photography of these amazing sea creatures. This series is suitable for all ages!

From early November through the end of December, young sea turtles are stranded along north facing beaches of Cape Cod. These "Cold stunned” turtles are near death and suffer from pneumonia, as well as injuries to their bodies, or both. This program follows photographer Bob Michelson, who was contracted by NOAA National Marine Fisheries service to document the entire process, from rescuing sea turtles along Cape Cod beaches through their medical care and rehabilitation at the New England Aquarium (NEAq) sea turtle facility in Quincy, to their release back into the environment. Exclusive underwater photos of turtles in the NEAq Giant Ocean Tank are included in this presentation.

This program will be offered at the Abbot Library (in-person) AND online (via Zoom)
