Lectures with Road Scholar: In Search of Amelia Earhart - The Expedition to Nikumaroro

Thursday, October 21:00—2:00 PMEvent Center (105)Abbot Public Library235 Pleasant Street, Marblehead, MA, 01945

Join us on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. for a free one-hour lecture and Q&A to learn about the Taraia Object and the expedition to find Amelia Earhart's plane.

In 1937, pioneering aviator Amelia Earhart vanished while attempting to fly around the world with navigator Fred Noonan, sparking one of aviation’s greatest and most enduring mysteries. Nearly a century later, archaeologist Dr. Richard Pettigrew is preparing to lead a groundbreaking expedition to Nikumaroro, a remote island in the Pacific. The team’s focus: The "Taraia Object," a recently identified anomaly that could be a remnant of Earhart’s Lockheed Electra. In this lecture, Dr. Pettigrew will share why this discovery is so compelling, what the expedition will do to investigate it, and the challenges the field team expects to face. Join us for a first look at how this journey may finally bring answers to one of history’s greatest enigmas.

A viewing of the online lecture will be held in the Event Center at Abbot Public Library, followed by a discussion session.

Registration is required and limited to 35. Please register below. Can't attend in person? Please register for the program or join the Wait List. Everyone who is registered will be sent the recording.

Dr. Richard Pettigrew is an archaeologist and the executive director of the Archaeological Legacy Institute.
